These days, your web presence is almost as important as the services you provide (almost). Your clients — and potential clients — are accustomed to cool/entertaining/you-fill-in-the-blank websites that also provide useful information about the services or products they are seeking. Why should your law firm’s website be any different? If you want to keep viewers engaged and coming back for more, it shouldn’t.
Here are 3 mistakes you must avoid when building your website:
1. Boring!
If your website is putting people to sleep, time to step it up. In order to keep clients coming back, your website needs to be dynamic and engaging. Start a blog that you regularly update, add interesting, fresh videos, or offer a Q & A session to your clients. The last reason you want to lose business is because you can’t keep your clients’ attention.
2. Just Not Attractive
Back in the day, you could get away with a poorly designed website so long as you offered the crucial tidbits of information (contact info, practice areas…). Those days are long gone. As noted above, your clients regularly come across easy to navigate, attractive websites — and they enjoy them. If your website isn’t one of these, chances are you will start to lose potential (even current!) clients to a competitor. To clients, your website’s look and functionality = your credibility.
3. Overload!
We understand that you practice 17 areas of the law and have a video describing each — all on your home page. Take it down! All of it! This is a perfect example of ‘less is more.’ Returning to functionality, your clients need to quickly and easily be shown what you can do for them. Remember, this is about them, not you. Save your trial video for your grandkids, or if you must include it, for it’s own (back) page.
